Read At Your Own Risk
If you're considering writing that novel for National Novel Writing Month, you might want to read this first . . .
Laura Miller expresses it well when she comments that readers are an endangered species, not writers. (Well, maybe writers who make a living at it are endangered.)
Back in April, Sandi posted about a book called WRITING WHAT YOU KNOW: REALIA, by Marion Roach Smith. Not long after, I heard an interview with Smith. When asked the most important piece of advice she could offer to writers, she said Read, Read, Read. To that I say yes, yes, yes. (Posts on May 8 & May 13 on this subject are also worth read read reading.)
