The Next-Generation E-Book

Wow--you need to check out this presentation by Mike Matas of the interaction digital book for iPad and iPhone that he and his creative team have developed.  And be sure to watch the last thirty seconds of the four-and-a-half minute video, in which Matas explains the business model.  We live in exciting times.

  1. As always I want to know how fiction will fare on such a vehicle. It is easy to see how this gadget can serve the trailers fiction writers are now doing to promote their work. I am not sure where fiction stands these days on the enhanced issue. Are they working? I have no idea if they are actually widely distributed. I don't think I would want to "read" one. But readers a bit younger then me are going to love this vehicle and I imagine artists involved with graphic fiction could go crazy with an Ipad or tablet like this one.

The future is wild. 3D tablets -- are they already in existence? Did I miss that?

  2. Ditto that, Karl. Wow. Very exciting for the whole new way it gives people to enter into books. It will be more obviously applicable for some kinds of books than for others, of course, but it seems to me that we are limited only by our imaginations regarding how it might work for any particular book. Its capabilities remind me, in a limited way, of the Special Features feature on DVDs.
