Agents As Publishers--Is It Legit?
From Sandi Gelles-Cole: "I was fascinated by this piece in Publishing Perspectives about the conflict of interest of agents now acting as publishers. Read it if you have a minute."
Jason Allen Ashlock's analysis of the problems with agents acting as publishers hits the bull's eye, in my opinion. Killer line and insight: "Certain principles do not evaporate in the face of innovation." He is surely right that abandoning the principles of fair dealing that have evolved to govern relationships between agents, authors, and publishers will only lead to unfairness and self-dealing, witting and unwitting.
