SPAWNPUNK

Wait, I mean STEAMPUNK. Does anyone have any idea what this genre refers to? Now that Penquin is starting their Book Country line, whatever this material is has been formalized, along with Alternative History, into a bona fide slot. Oh to be in paperback publishing in the old days, looking for the right book to shove into the rack.

Seriously, does anyone know what this refers to?

  1. Steampunk is an approach to science fiction/fantasy that imagines a world in which futuristic stuff like space travel is combined with 19th century technology--steam engines, mechanical rather than electronic calculators, etc. Think about the old TV show (and later movie) THE WILD WILD WEST, which has a bit of steampunk esthetic. Here's a Wikipedia article that explains a little more . . .
